What the ElysianWorld project is about

There have been numerous public discussions over the past couple of years regarding software patents, copyright and ownership issues surrounding open source projects, license disputes, and so on. We all know about the SCO story, or the heated debates between the BSD and GNU camps. Also, from a programmer’s point of view, many current software environments were built on a shaky foundation of aging technology (most prominently the C programming language, and the Unix and Windows APIs). ElysianWorld is an endeavor to bring advanced technology to programmers and users without the burden of copyright and licensing issues.

ElysianWorld is centered on the D programming language. The first component, currently in its last stages of development is libd, a modern runtime library for D with no C dependencies other than your operating system’s kernel. Like all future components of ElysianWorld, libd is fully in the public domain, in all jurisdictions where this is possible (including the U.S.).
